Julia Stoll
Through my drawing practice, I explore the body and its relation to other types of matter. I often use my daily encounters with materials such as wood, metal, fabric, or plants as a starting point to create a visual language that emphasises a shared sensitivity between these and the human hands. This sensitivity is rooted in common responses to surrounding conditions such as temperature, humidity, gravity, or the presence of chemicals. As such my drawings are documentations of encounters on one hand, and on the other, exercises in somatic memory - a bodily way of remembering. In this sense I have begun to explore the act of drawing as a manifestation of an internal repertoire through which I like to engage with themes such as transformation, growth, disease, and healing.
